Read:

Chapters 12-15 of Loertscher's Taxonomy of the School Library Media Program, 2nd ed.

Topics:

• Technology Systems

• Personnel

• Budgeting

• Policies

• Facilities

• Scheduling (access)

Read as widely as you can on the organization and management of a library media center in a school and also at the school district level.

There are a number of other books specifically written to help a school librarian build a functional library media center, open its doors to teachers and students and make it into a place that becomes a central learning hub in the school.

  • What elements of the organization itself seem to contribute the most toward teaching and learning?
  • What kind of staff is required to keep a center functioning?
  • What is the role of the library an other specialists in the school who are also trying to improve teaching and learning?
